The context

The e-learning system is not limited to school or academic training, but can be used  successfully for  company training, especially for the organizations with multiple locations.

Moreover, the use of a remote training course allows the company to minimize costs. The advantages of the e-learning system are:

  • costs reductions;
  • learning times reduction;
  • long lasting learning;
  • possibility to reach users geographically distant;
  • ease to check  the e-learning results and timely individuation of issues.

The contents of the didactic courses can be planned in different formats: HTML pages, 2D or 3D animations, audio files, video files, simulations, interactive exercises, tests. They are all, in general, contents made in a multimedia modality that can be built ad hoc (with authoring software) or modified starting from existing material in electronic format, for example from eBooks.

The didactic materials has to be developed  ad hoc in order to guarantee the four main characteristics of the online training:

Modularity, the didactic material must be formed by didactic modules, called also Learning Objects (LO) in order to let the user dedicate to training no more than15/20 minutes customizing in this way times and approach modalities to the contents

Interactivity, the user  interacts with the didactic material

Exhaustively, every LO must respond to a formative aim and bring the user to the reachingof this aim

Interoperability, the didactic materials must be prepared in order to be delivered on every technological platform and to guarantee the traceability of the training action. The didactic material must be produced in compliance with the existing e-learning standard suche as AICC, SCORM,IMS and, the most used, SCORM.
